How Many Degrees In The Freemason Compass?

Based on the choice of topic you know what a certain number is supposed to mean. You don't even need to read the story beyond what the number of the day is. The email notification from YouTube came at 1:27. That couldn't mean anything but Bavarian Illuminati, because.....I said so!

Bullshit.

The overused reason for freemasonry shoehorning for 47 is this image:

Which is doubly bullshit because now if 235 pops up, even though straight lines don't have angles it's declared that half of 47 is 23.5, each leg of the compass is 1/2. To hell with being off by a factor of 10. Triply bullshit because phyllotaxis at 137.5 is close enough. Quadruply bullshit because the Google search for "47 degree freemason compass" that brings up this image only comes from the Free To Find Misinformation blog.

So while checking out those images from the Google search of "47 degree freemason compass", do you notice that it's kind of odd that they don't mention exactly what the compass angle is? And that some representations are visibly different angles?

Exactly who decided this always was supposed to be 47 degrees? Some actual freemasons have some thoughts out there about this as well as inquiring minds.

Put a check mark in the column of "it doesn't say, I don't know". But some guess 60 degrees.

Here's 47 degrees, but apparently just the French Frees do that (until they ketchup)

Here's some more "I don't know" with a dose of 60 degrees.

Sacred 60 degrees sounds pretty authoritative.

Those are the top hits for "degrees in freemason compass" and just looking at the other site names it's pretty clear that it's not an absolute that it's supposed to be 47 degrees. If anything, probably 60 degrees. It seems the angle isn't so important to the masons as is the symbolism of the compass itself. There's lots of info about the G meaning Great Builder, Geometry, or both. How the degrees of masonry might relate to the compass. Nothing about it unequivocally being 47 degrees.

Stop overusing the same excuse and it wont be so obvious that you didn't do any actual research. What did you do? Have a leak in the boat of 47 and 74 not having any nice freemason words to shoehorn in and you just latched on to the first thing that came by? What are you going to make up next, the distance to the moon?

Ooops.
