My top pick for The Big Lie is not the false claim of a 2020 stolen election. That’s just a Side Lie. An afterthought or side dish served up with how modern global society is utterly dependent on continued burning of fossil fuels. Keep those capitalist economies chugging along, and never, ever admit that proper job costing should include some clean up of waste materials. And instead of “some” clean up, there’s a constant push for no cleanup. It interferes with oil company and sovereign state fossil fuel production CEO compensation and bottom lines.
If you search out some material on the internet about late stage capitalism you can find commentary about how there’s an anomaly in world history. History that we might add is trying to be erased in these times. After World War II, there was a brief blip from about 1945-1975 where oligarch taxation and policies benefitting the working class took hold. And then without benefit of an internet, propaganda slowly took hold and the fossil fuel industry decided it would be more fun to lie about the consequences of constantly dumping more pollutants in the environment than for effective clean up. And now the can has been kicked down the road about as far as it can go.
The Big Beautiful Fossil Fuel lie worked something like this.
Fossil Fuel energy is essentially limitless.
Fossil fuel energy is clean. (I had a physics professor that often quoted about the “damned environmentalists not letting us burn coal - 1978 or 1979).
Exploitation of cheap labor abroad for the U.S. The country that benefited the most from the end of WWII with infrastructure remaining intact. It’s good not to have the homeland bombed.
Democracy and capitalism spreads, the communists being a convenient scapegoat. Probably helped along by capitalism being genuinely a better option. (Personal opinion.)
RARE takes over. Rich Assholes Ruin Everything. Go away, U.S. I’m here at ground zero; these are my people to exploit.
A lot of the social problems from employment and cheap labor and not cleaning up move back to the U.S. Mostly rural South and low population red states elsewhere.
The better off middle class from the golden 1945-1975 era are convinced, like my physics professor, that “My investments are more important than your children” and take over business leadership.
The anti-science movement takes grip. All as a cover up for the big, fossil fuel lie. Any scientific issue is targeted as a hoax. Vaccines & medicine in general, moon landing, evolution, etc…. All become fair game for background noise to make people distrust actual scientific reality based commentary.
Since the religious right already had a foothold in magical solutions they evolve into the top bad actors straying from the positive social messages of loving thy neighbor into the oddball stuff. Conspiracy theories, without being burdened by the cumbersome “love thy neighbor” aspects of religion push to extremism. Social media becomes the battleground for political propaganda.
The extremism, more outrageous means more clicks and views which means more money leads to the outcome of people preferring to have money than being right about things. Politically motivated violence ensues.
And finally we elect a President that claims outright that coal isn’t just not bad, it’s big, beautiful, clean and the bestest thing to MAGA.
This seems like a long time, but compared to the formation of coal from dead plants it’s a geological tick of the clock. Literally millions of years to sit in the underground pressure cooker. Of course this goes against the idea the Earth is only thousands of years old. Of course it’s easier to form an army of people needing immediate gratification to slide into Mussolini’s fascist idea of cracking the skulls of eggheads.
And in the meantime, if gematria had any real meaning to the global situation some “scholar” would certainly before me have discovered that coal is not big and beautiful, but the poster child of all the evils in the world. Sitting in the ground quietly absorbing the hellish sulfur to be released along with that precious, not so lovely carbon dioxide.
Big, beautiful, clean coal is right wing economic projection at its finest. Coal mining jobs are notoriously difficult, laborious, dangerous and low paying. And we’re about to waste resources on coal burned electricity on the AI bubble that’s looking like it’s getting ready to pop. But hey, you can find a sports gematria YouTuber to gamble with, so that’ll be fun.
