I’m somewhat insulted that somehow Scotsman got the nod for this fallacy of appealing to purity. And no true American wouldn’t be. That’s what it’s all about. Lumping everyone together under a convenient label, then declaring those that stray from the path as less than human, even if the one offense is minor.
This is always pejorative. An insult to be hurled at your enemies. By far, the most common use in modern times is RINO. Since practical application involves picking a grifting hero with a butt ton of undesirable characteristics, said hero will get challenged and have little defense to cover their own weaknesses than hurling shit at the enemies. When a long time Republican in US politics finally dares that maybe Trump is not the guy to support. RINO. Republican In Name Only. Combine this with the power of relentless psychological projection - the RINOs are on a witch hunt, and you have all the building blocks of a long term evidence free campaign. People that don’t believe in actual evidence and actual research are never going to disrespect the cult leader. No true Republican would support anyone except Donald Trump. All the donations are his, and his alone.
Down in the lower levels of gematria grifting, this is also pejorative, although without a cutesy acronym. At least not one that’s openly discussed. At these lower levels, where exploring social media’s new users cognitive biases gematria is operating as conspiracy theory light. If you are gullible enough to believe that SOCIETY OF JESUS=56 as a bad thing, and HUBBARD=56 is not a bad thing - that’s a “no true decoder” moment. Insulting the king must be ignored or rationalized away. Rationalized away with further logical fallacies as there’s absolutely no real evidence present.
No True Decoder thinking abounds in gematria community shill game activity. The cliques are constantly warring with one another, desperate for a bigger share of the grifting pie. Just like political appeals to nationalism which inevitably lead to a choice of who is less wrong, the person with bias problems is pressured to choose a less wrong leader. Never understanding that they are all deeply wrong. Their job is to be wrong. And only you’re donations to the True Decoder clique can save the world.
As gematria was gaining a footing in the conspiracy grifting world, suddenly Derek got the bright idea that he needed to join the action and create a zillion more ciphers. The largest No True Decoder debate was born. Are you a lousy decoder for using more than the four base ciphers? Yes, you’re a Decoder In Name Only. Depending on who you talk to. Are you a bad decoder for forcing every narrative to be about the Jesuits? Yep, depending on who you talk to. Ignoring that gematria can be about eclipse rituals (or puppies, or dust bunnies, or slime mold, etc…) makes you a Decoder In Name Only. Did you find another ritual for the quarterback of your favorite team while ignoring an equally valid narrative for tue other team? Oh hell yes, you less than human Decoder In Name Only.
Merging gematria into the Alex Jones world of clickbait stories with fallacious appeals to patriotic values (guns and free speech) was inevitable, despite its somewhat tame origin of scamming people for a couple of bucks on sports picks. There was, is, and always will be a large enough population of biased people who won’t get that the emotional arbitrary reaction they have shows their lack of critical thinking skills. The arbitrariness of suddenly declaring someone as an -INO of some sort eludes those how are more into instant gratification than long term value. It’s often easier to whip these people up into joining an -INO bandwagon than it is to get them to switch sides. They’ve already arbitrarily decided someone and their creed is less wrong than the other wrong information to choose from. And the shill game goes on and on and on.
